When we stopped for a bag of ice on the way out of Jonesboro, we spotted two men standing at the back of their pickup. They were talking to each other about the big black bear trophy visible in the truck bed. Carol asked if she could take some pictures, and they agreed. One of them had done the taxidermy work for the other, the hunter who killed the bear with a bow and arrow. He shot the 400 pound bear when it was only 10 yards from him, and he said he was shaking so much could hardly hold his aim.
Later in the afternoon, we stopped at Wall Doxey State Park, near Holly Springs, Mississippi. The park surrounded a 40 acre lake, and we took some pictures there before taking a quick 20-minute hike on the nature trail around the lake.
We stopped for dinner just south of Montgomery, Alabama, and then followed our cell phone maps/gps on a merry chase on back highways again, including an unexpected dead-end in the Alabama boondocks. We finally ended up in Eufala, Alabama, where we spent the night.
